Abstract

Even metrics are the most important tool for quality monitoring and management they are often almost unused or used in a too simply way to provide profound view to the problems in the quality of work. If metrics are used then mostly to measure size of work only but not its quality.

Metrics are often neglected due to their complexity and cost. Particularly, the project managers neglect the metrics usage because they rely on their own feeling and observation more than on accurate data. The tutorial describes the techniques of using the metrics for both instant and long-term quality management. At first part, general methods of collection and processing data are presented. The second part demonstrates the techniques on an example that was developed from a real project. The example focuses on monitoring quality of the testing process, effectiveness of the testing techniques as well as time and people allocation.
